Joseph Beth event

The Joseph Beth event was well attended. Everyone enjoyed hearing Elizabeth Fitzgerald Howard read her special big book edition of Aunt Flossie's Hats and Crab Cakes Later. She even brought real hats that matched the hats in the story.
Did you attend a Mothers Love Kids' Books event? Did you lead one? Please leave a comment and let us know how it went.

"What the world needs now, is love, sweet love..."

We think the world needs a little hope and joy and love. What better holiday to express that than Mother's Day?

Times are bad all over. You don't need me to tell you that. So our Mothers love kids' books day event is a chance to share some joy. Take your mom to a bookstore and buy her a signed book by a local author! Or, if you're an author or illustrator, sign your books and make a little money! Or if you're a bookseller, sell some books and make some more money! Here in Pittsburgh, we're creating what is called "a book buying holiday" and while it won't save the economy, it will spread some much needed love and joy.

We hope to see you on Mother's Day weekend. Buy your mom a book. It's the least you can do.

An idea...the beginning of something bigger

What's this? An event to celebrate mothers and kids and children's books, on Mother's Day? Yes, mark your calendar for May 10, 2009.

With the downturn of the economy, we want to support people buying children's books and specifically local Southwestern Pennsylvania authors and illustrators.

How did this start? On December 6th, author Mitali Perkins sent a tweet that launched an event that will happen in New England on Valentine's Day, with 43 bookstores and 142 authors/illustrators.
From a few humble tweets, Kids Love Authors was born.

Now we are trying to replicate this fantastic event in the Pittsburgh area, Mothers Love Kids' Books. Please join us!

Suzi can be reached via email at pghgurl30 at gmail.com. We are so excited about this and can't wait to talk to you about it!
